HalfPint Posted January 8, 2008 Report Posted January 8, 2008 Morning jasonJust found your question on abs lights.Have you sorted it out now. What was the problem in the end. As mine has gone about four years ago all the cv rings and sensors are finethey think its either the abs pump or the abs valve or both and the cost five hundred pound each. please reply to paulramsay69@btinternet.com thanks halfpint Quote
Stevoo Posted January 9, 2008 Report Posted January 9, 2008 Check brake fluid as that sometimes causes handbrake light to come on when fluid is low or faulty sensor. Quote

HalfPint Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 frauds checked it years ago so has volks wagons on there machines and other garages around my way.the codes that they keep getting ain't anything to do with the abs rings or the sensors they have all been checked and the codes that they got was either the pump or manifold or both. the problem is this is the '96 model and i've had the wiring break in the doors for the windows and the reversing light wiring broke in the tailgate could there be wiring somewhere to bring up the abs fault. it goe's off when the car is started up and as you hit 18 mph then the two lights come on together. I've even pulled apart the brake res cap off just now and cleaned up the contacts and the metal washer but still the same. please help me. paul..... Quote
Beyond Help? Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Normally if the system self-checks and the light goes off only to come on again when driving then it is the sensor rings. It is a strange problem indeed. Still, it explains how your getting it MOTed every year! Quote
HalfPint Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 So what are you saying that it can only be the the sensor rings or the sensors. Quote
Beyond Help? Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Normally that is the case. It seems to complete it's self test, which does not include testing the signals from the sensors. Then when you drive it is picking up a sensor that is either not giving a signal, or is giving a signal that is out of scope compared to the others. Where about in the country are you? If someone has VAG-COM they can hook it up and see the wheel speeds indicated by each sensor. Quote
HalfPint Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Hi ya I live in north devon in Barnstaple Quote
Beyond Help? Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Too far from me then! Is there anyone down that way who can help? Quote
Rusty Nail Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 Hi there Just a quick question. Does you car have parking sensors? The reason I ask is that I know on mine that if you have engaged the parking sensors they will automatically disengage at approx 16mph. If you have had wiring issues, I was wondering if there was a back feed from this function causing the lamp to illuminate. Just a thought - probably of no help but hey, you never know. Quote
HalfPint Posted January 10, 2008 Report Posted January 10, 2008 No sorry wish it was that simple.Mine had a recall years ago to change the brake res cap as water was supposedly getting in there and i think it was about 6 months later the abs and brake lights came on and since then no one has been able to sort it out and i'm not letting freuds get hold of it.I may as well just sign the cheques in me cheque book and hand it over to them.As i said before i've had shops check it and they say they sensors are fine but now i'm starting to doubt them all.I'm even thinking of buying the 4 and replacing them? Quote
Rusty Nail Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 It would prob be cheaper to buy VAGcom and check the system out yourself rather than buy 4 new sensors and have all of that hassle. Also, if you have VAGcom you can check all futute issues (bound to be some with a Ford) and diagnose them too. Quote
HalfPint Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Thanks for all your comments of help. One more question where can i buy a vagcom from and what is a good one to get. is this sort of thing a halfords gadget or what. Quote
HalfPint Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Also with the vagcom when it gets the list of faults does it have the code description or if not where can i get a full list. Quote
Beyond Help? Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 No, it is much more expensive than a Halfords gadet! Do you have a laptop or can borrow one? If so I suggest you look for a VAG-COM compatable lead on the net/eBay etc. VAG-COM it a Trademark of Ross-Tech and their web pages will tell you more: http://www.ross-tech.com/ Quote
Steve S. Posted January 11, 2008 Report Posted January 11, 2008 Hi, I don't know whether the experience I had with my ABS light staying on will be helpful or not. I have the 2.8 V6 so I'm not sure whether the system is similar to your 2.0. As you do, I suspected the speed sensors, which I unscrewed and cleaned to no avail.Anyway , to cut a long story short, I discovered a break in the sender wire from one of the rear speed sensors. This was up , underneath the car behind the middle exhaust box where you can't see it, on a bend, before it disapears thro' a grommet and then under the carpet to the main J. box on the bulkhead next to the battery. This wire had become brittle with age and extremes of heat. (mines an "R" reg) and just broke. I basically had to identify wires of the large multi plug and then just use a meter to test for continuity with a loop of spare wire back to complete the circuit. I mended it with a connector block and waterproof tape. Still ok after 2 years! Cheers, Steve S. Quote
big_kev Posted January 12, 2008 Report Posted January 12, 2008 Flashing brake light ? Anyone got any ideas on this as it is a lot more to worry about than the loss of ABS ! Quote
HalfPint Posted January 18, 2008 Report Posted January 18, 2008 I have a quick question.I went to the breakers yesterday and they had a galaxy there i think it was a 2.8, but all i won't to know,is the abs pumps and manifold all the same on the galaxy's as he has one for Quote
